Windows 7 Starter has received a lot of press over the last few months. Most of it bad, most of it deserved. As discussed previously, one of it’s biggest issues up until now was it’s 3 open application limit. That little restriction has wisely been removed by Microsoft. But all is not well, there are still many issues with Windows 7 Starter Edition for Netbook Dads.
Aero Glass, meaning you can only use the “Windows Basic” or other opaque themes. It also means you do not get Taskbar Previews or Aero Peek.
Personalization features for changing desktop backgrounds, window colors, or sound schemes.
The ability to switch between users without having to log off.
Multi-monitor support.
DVD playback.
Windows Media Center for watching recorded TV or other media.
Remote Media Streaming for streaming your music, videos, and recorded TV from your home computer.
Domain support for business customers.
XP Mode for those that want the ability to run older Windows XP programs on Windows 7.
I’m curious, how far did you get down the list before you uttered the phrase “…Are you kidding me?!?” I’m not sure how that list reads, but the elimination of Aero Glass and Personalization features above only make a Personal Computer not Personal. Something that even Microsoft should realize isn’t acceptable.
